About Us – Queni Koi Southern

Welcome to Queni Koi Southern, we are a family run business with a love for quality nishikigoi and a passion for providing such to our customers.

Queni Koi was first formed in 2010 and grew into one of the largest koi-only retail outlets in the U.K. In September 2025, Queni Koi Limited was bought out of administration by father and son duo Paul and Joseph Duckett, and began trading as Queni Koi Southern Limited. The business retained the brands, products, trademarks, intellectual property, and staff of the previous company, while also bringing fresh investment and renewed direction.

Since then, there has been significant investment in new products, livestock, general stock, new staff and improvements to the Wanlip shop. We are also building a larger new facility in Northamptonshire, which will support the future growth of the business and act as the headquarters for our wholesale operations.

We now run a team of 5 people, you are most likely to meet Joseph, the store manager but you also have Richey, Tilly, Dean & Mary all who are happy to help and all have different areas of expertise.

Our retail site in Wanlip holds over 60,000 gallons of water across 26 ponds. This allows us to offer one of the biggest selections of koi available to view, with options for many different budgets and experience levels. From fry to high-quality show-winning koi, our aim is to give customers a wide and exciting choice that fits all budgets and accommodates for both experienced koi keepers and beginners.

A key part of our About Us story is the care we take when sourcing koi. We will visit Japan multiple times a year and work with trusted breeders in Niigata and Western Japan, Josephs first trip to Japan is booked for March 2027, this year we have liased with several experienced agents who have given us thousands of koi to choose from, where we chose what we deemed the best quality to price ratio as well as some curveballs to pique interest.

Every koi goes through a strict biosecure quarantine process, including a minimum of two heat ramp cycles and any necessary treatments, to help ensure the koi we sell are healthy and ready for customers’ ponds, in addition to daily inspections while in store and treatments as necessary.

We also have our own trademarked brands, including Kenko Foods and Koi Doc. These food and treatment ranges are made to a high standard, used exclusively in-house, and developed with industry-leading partners.
